Billu - An Autobiography

Hello All,

Writing with a pen and paper has been my favorite always. However, putting those inked words into a post is the tedious part, where I need to type the entire story again. A story from my old paper days… Hoping you enjoy these.

‘I have to run… This big black cat is chasing me and there is water everywhere. Run!!! Oh God, save me!!!'… I opened my eyes only to know that it was a dream and I was safely sleeping in my bed. Hmmm… Time to get up.

Hi there! My name is Billu. I stay in this house since the time one of them picked me up. I, earlier was somewhere where it used to rain a lot and lots of big noisy substance used to pass. I couldn't get any food also there. It was then the miracle happened – I was saved from the mouth of death. And since then, I not only get shelter from rain and good food but also love – lots of them… My love givers are not like me with four legs and still, they are my family.

I would like to talk about my routine. Usually, I get up with my dad - mainly together, sometimes late or early. On the day am early, I go near the door where my mom and dad stay through the night and say – "Dad, Dad" and start to scratch the door until my dad wakes up. When he is finally up, he goes near the room which is always cold and does something. After that, he goes near the place to piss and stands near the door for few minutes. Dad doesn't stay in the house for much time, however, this part of the day is only for me and him. I touch his feet, rub my cheek and chin against him, look at him and say "daddy". I keep doing this till he comes to kitchen and pours milk into my bowl which is kept beside the cold room. I drink the milk, he gave, with so much love, lick my lips and come to sit near the door to the outside world. Dad opens the door for me and I go near the plants.

When am almost done with giving out the waste material of my body, mom wakes up. I could hear her voice through the open the window. She opens the door for me. When I am in, I go around her legs and lick them. She lifts me in the air and hugs me. She says something I don't understand. She then puts me back on the floor and says – "Come". I know this word since they use it quite often to call to eat something. I follow her to the kitchen and she puts milk into my bowl and starts to cook. She must be a great cook because I wait there and take in the smell of the air, which will be very good!!! I sit in the kitchen whenever she is working.

It is after few minutes that my brother wakes up. As soon as he gets up, he comes and hugs me literally by putting his arms around my neck. He then goes off to get ready to go out with my dad. But, unlike my dad, he returns in the afternoon when my mom is finished with her work. She then serves the food to me and my brother. He again goes back and returns when it almost night. He is my man! You know why because whenever he eats anything, he gives a share for me. I like him for that. Not only that, he plays with me. He hides in a place and I search him and chase him, and we play so forth.

Guess what!!! I have a sister too. I didn't know this fact only. I came to know when she came home once. And now I know she comes home once in a year or so. I don't know much about her. But she must be loveable because she keeps caressing me and sometimes offers me milk. Now, that's my routine. I will also tell about my likes and dislikes. I like to eat something that makes noise, like the ones my brother eats!!! I also hunt insects which will be tastier than the rice and curds that my mother offers me. My favorite is to watch the rain come!!! I keep sleeping mostly and I hate it when someone disturbs my sleep… I like to chase mom or bro when they hide or play with a ball or stick like substance that my mom plays with. I have been given a bed with lots of clothes especially those which smell of my mom and I like it very much. Oh, hang on! I like Lizards too! I catch frogs and snakes because they enter into my parents' house (or rather my house) and kill them but never eat them. I sometimes, hop and try to catch the butterflies. I like to sit amongst all my family members. I don't really understand what they say, however they must speak about me because I sometimes hear them say my name – ‘Billu'.

The world is so fair!!! It gave me everything that it took away from me. I don't know who my real parents are! but, these two-legged people gave me everything, that may be my parents also couldn't give me. I thank KRISHNA for my fortunate life…

Author's Note: For all wondering, this is indeed the story of a Cat from the first person prespective of a cat. Yes, the story is fictional, but the characters are real. It was indeed the cat in my house. And yes, I do have an old picture of him :)

For the Love of Billu… Meow…
Please Take Care,
Keep Smiling,

With Loads of Love,
Maddy.
