Profession & Passion

Hello All,
I have already published an article. Here I am with a short imaginary story.
Hoping it will be as much enjoyable... :-)

It was a dull cloudy morning. Rudra woke up in  his coziest and comfortable round bed and looked around the massive bedroom, when the sun hit his eyes. The maid of his house had already started to sweep. Next to his bed, tea and breakfast was ready. Rudra was tall,well-built with bushy-black hair. He had an elegant brown eyes and his right thumb had a ring of silver. So a short description of him would be a rich hunk. He reached for the tea, when his room door knocked...

Without awaiting his reply, his dad enters the room. “Good Morning”, says dad and not much expecting a reply from his arrogant child he continues, “I suppose You had a great sleep yesterday. So, today is a big day for You and there is no escaping it. It been three years now that I have been telling You to join me in my business. You had your excuses from higher studies to trekking with friends. I have given You enough time already with Your music and I see You are going nowhere in the same too.” “But,Dad…”,tried to interrupt Rudra. Cutting him in middle, his dad continued, “I already put up a concert for You and tried to understand Your music passion. All our relatives did not like it so much, but all the while I was trying to keep You happy.” Rudra again interrupted,”Dad, I am a Rockstar and You put a tent like I am a classical singer…” Dad overheard Rudra and spoke again, “Me and Your mom have done enough things to pamper You till today. And now we are expecting You to start listening to us. Hope to see You in office at 9. Good day, son”, so saying his dad left the room. Rudra did not bother to complete his half finished tea and got up from bed,got dressed, took his car key and left without saying a word to anyone.

He drove far and away. He had no destination. He did not call any of his friends for the first time in his life, because he wanted to be with just himself. Most of his friends also had a very rich Dad like him and all were happy to enter into their fathers path at the right time unlike him. He had a passion with music and he had the gut feeling that it is going to take him far. But now it seems like he is left with no choice. Saying yes to his dad's business was like being alive without brains in life and meanwhile saying no to music was like staying alive without a heart. It was almost evening when he finally turned around, decision still up in the air. He drove to the nearest bar which was not like usual one he visit when his friends turn up. All his life he has never been to visit any call girls unlike his friends who do it sometimes. When he ordered his first drink, he realized a lady next to him was looking at him. He glanced at her. She was medium-height, slim, fair and beautiful. She had the most wonderful eyes of sky blue color, seeing which anybody would be lost for a while.

Rudra was about to ask her name when she handed a hand written paper to him, 'Khushnagar, Door Number 4' was all it read. Rudra felt it weird and he asked her what is it. She left without saying anything more. Curious as he was, he paid for his drink and tried to follow her. When he came out she was on road, but by the time he got his car out, she was no where to be seen. He was about to hit the road back, when he read the sign board which read – 'Khushnagar' which pointed to right. It suddenly hit him that she must be a call girl and that place is for those people. He turned his car and started to drive in opposite direction. He had barely gone a few meters, when he felt, the need to talk to someone about his life...

Without his friends near him, he had no choice but take a 'U' turn. He drove into the right and entered Khushnagar and he knew he was right about this place. Ahead of him was a man, indicating to him the car parking area and that he cannot take his car ahead. He parked his car and waited for few minutes as if waiting for someone to tell that he should drive back. Reluctantly, he got out of car. Since he had big and nice car, the manager asked him to pay extra bucks which he paid without a thought. Manager, then asked whom he wants to visit and Rudra showed the hand-written note she had given him. Manager then made him pay for her and again he demanded extra. Without a thought, he gave the demanded money to manager, who left then. He, then walked to the door 4 and knocked. None replied. He knocked again and this time the same lady opened the door. She had lot of blushes and lipstick put on, but the thing which still highlighted was her eyes...

She summoned him in and closed the door. He started, “No… I am not here for all those…”
She was confused, “Then what are you here for? Why would you pay me for? And why would you pay more for me?”. Her accent had a bit village touch in it and her voice was crisp. Rudra was taken aback with her english.
He asked her, “You talk english?”.
She replied, “Yes, I know. Learnt, another customer, who used to come here often. Now he doesn't come because he passed away. So what brought You here?”.
“What is Your Name?”,  he asked her.
“Not say name. We won't say name on duty. But for You I feel like telling. It is Neelakshi. Means blue eyes as You see.”, she replied with broken english.
Rudra replied, “Yeah, You have damn beautiful eyes. I was about to say that. But could You please remove all your make-up and come.”
“Are first time in these kind of places, saheb?”, asked Neelakshi.
“Yes… How did you come to know of that?”, stammered Rudra.
“Can understand... I am on duty, so cannot remove make up.” Rudra cross questioned her, “Are you not supposed to listen to what your customer says though?”. She frowned and then left to washroom. She came back after five minutes and this time she was looking like she appeared in the bar.
“All ok, saheb?”, she asked.
“Rudra is my name. Call me by the same name. Do not call me anything else.”
“Rudra… You lot of money?”, saying which she examined him from top to toe.
“You have lot of money is the proper way. Yes, My dad is very rich.”, replied Rudra. Then he narrated his whole life story to her – about his rich dad, his crazy passion for music and about how his dad does not understand that and wants him to take over him in business. She listened quietly and in the end said only one sentence, “Your dad has so much money is the happy part, Rudra”. Rudra looked at her, she was seated in front of him. “Money is important, Rudra. I see life. I come from small village in Orrisa. In my village all poor. No money. My father also no money. My father has 6 children – 4 daughter and 2 son. My sister all married and happy now. I was small of all. I was happy then. Going to school and very happy. I loved going to school. I went till 7 standard. But no english school – Oriya school. I did not know english. But wanted to talk english. I first in class in english all years. I liked english teacher also. After 7, I want to study more. I told dad, I study more. Dad told no I come to work with them. I told no. Then Dad no send me to school. He want me get married. I ran from marriage. I want to come to big city and go to school. But I no money. I met Chandan bhai, he told me. I sleep with people, I get money. I thought, I make money and go to school. But with Chandan bhai, very less money. So I run away again. I came to Khushnagar. Here a little bit more money. Also here all not so bad people. Some rich people come here, like you. So I get more money. Now, I want more money to go to english school.” Rudra carefully listened to her life story and was heavy in heart when she finished. The silence everywhere, the misty air in the room and loads of thinking running in heads, he did not realize when he dozed off.

Early next morning, he woke up early and saw Neelakshi sleeping on the floor. It took him a while to recollect the previous night, but when he completely re-ran the night story in his mind. He had decided what he had to do next. He took a paper from the room and wrote from pen in his pocket in beautiful english, “Neelakshi, You have very attractive eyes. But You have more fabulous heart also. I want You to go to school. I know You can not leave job in night. But in day You don't do anything, I am guessing. So take it up. Apply to nearest English School and start studying again. I also want You to gradually stop working in night and start thinking of your career. I will send money for your school. And I am also keeping here some more money. Use it wisely.” He concluded his letter with his phone number and left 10k bucks along with the letter and left without saying a word....

Next morning, Rudra woke early, to everyone's surprise. He was also present at breakfast table before his mom and dad. Though his dad was astounded to see him, he did not speak a word, acting angry about previous day. “Dad, I have new plans for your business. You want me to start now or shall we do it on the way to office?”, asked Rudra. His parents realised, he has truly become responsible and were excited. He almost finished business talks with dad on their way to office, when he got a call, “Hello!”. “Hello, saheb”, said Neelakshi. “Call me Rudra. Not anything else. Did You read my letter?”,said Rudra. “I read. And I am going to go to school soon,Rudra”, merrily replied Neelakshi. That day Rudra got another call, “Hello. We are from Ocean Pearls Band. We wanted a guitarist in our band. We heard You play in club, last Year. Would You like to join us?”.

An year later, Rudra threw a grand party to all his business client in which he combined with his concert also. Soon after the concert, he took excuse and left the party. He went to Khushnagar to meet Neelakshi. He had sent money to her every month, they both called each other and spoke often and he visited her often – to help her study, to share problem's solutions and also to give her a day off the routine work. This time she told Rudra about how her manager got to know about her going to school, and how he feels she doesn't fetch much customers anymore. In the end, she also told her decision of moving out of Khushnagar and rent a house for herself in the money she would get by working in a Mall.

P.S : Please Take Care :-)
        Keep Smiling :-)

        With Loads of Love,
               Maddy.
